SEVENTH WEEK REFLECTION
(17/12/2018-21/12/2018)

This week I had examination duty on two days. On 17th December Dhanya and me had duty on room no. 2. The majority of the students in the class are boys. 9th standard have Social Studies and 10th had Maths exam. The Social Studies exam was difficult. Most of the students face seems to be disappointed after seeing the question paper. Majority of the questions were from the first term. Their teacher came and explained the difficult questions to them. One of the boys of 9th standard kept copy and the teacher finded it and write on the answer sheets that it was copy. In the afternoon we had duty on room no. 1. The eighth standard had Maths exam. The English medium students asked me so many doubts as they find it difficult to understand the meaning of certain questions amd I clarified their doubts.

I completed my MCQ of our optional this week as we got  and wrote the conscientization programme report. Teacher gave us the answer sheets  to correct and asked us to return it back after the Christmas vacation.  Students were all in a happy mood that their Christmas vacation starts this week. The school closed on 21 December for the Christmas vacation. Children gave us sweets and cake as a part of their celebration. i felt very happy this week  that I chose teaching as my profession because we receive such a kind of love and respect from our dear children.

 SIXTH WEEK REFLECTION
(10/12/2018- 14/12/2018)

The Christmas exam started this week. On the first day that is on 11 December  I had examination duty. the exam started at 10 a.m. Chippy and me had duty on room no 1. It was a highly congested class with not enough benches and desks. It was the first time in my life that i was standing as an invigilator for examination duty. The teacher asked me to sign the answer sheets of students and we distributed the question paper at the right time. Actually it was little bit boring to stand simply in the examination hall. In the afternoon session I had duty on room no 2 and only 8 standard had examination in the afternoon. The boys were  disturbing and they had so many doubts. Finally their teacher scolded them. But it was a totally new experience for me. On 12 December 9th standard have English exam.  I was tensed whether the questions were easy or difficult. But with God's grace the questions were easy as most of them were the same as we put for the achievement test. The grammar session was also  very easy. My students told me that they wrote well. On 14th  December because of hartal the  exam was postponed.

Because of exams I didn't have much duty this  week. So we get time to finish our college works. So the week went smoothly and happily without much tensions and problems.

FIFTH WEEK REFLECTION
(3/12/2018- 7/12/2018)

This week we had a very tight schedule as we had to conduct the achievement test, diagnostic test and to do the conscientisation programme. We had to revise the whole portion before the Christmas examination  which is going to be conducted the next week. On 3 Decemeber I completed the activities in the textbook. This week I completed my thirty lesson plans. On 5 December I conducted the achievement test . Sudheesh gave first two hours and I successfully conducted it. Most of the boys were quite disturbing but somehow I managed the class. The problem with the children is that they don't even know how to read the question paper. Till the very end of the exam they were asking doubts. Their teacher told me to explain the question in Malayalam. It was like  most of them wrote the exam for my sake. But majority of  girls wrote the exam sincerely. On the same day Vijayan sir came to observe our Physical Education classes. He corrected our two lesson plans in this semester.  One based on yoga and the other based on health education. My yoga lesson plan was on Tadasana. I have chosen this  because it was very simple and beneficial for our health. And I have selected obesity for my health education as it was one of the burning issue that our young generation is facing today. The answer sheets of the boys were very poor which was full of grammar and spelling mistakes.

On 6 December we conducted the conscientisation programme. As our God's own country recently faced one of the serious disaster I had chosen the topic "Disaster Management". In the morning itself students came with their charts on various disasters and newspaper cuttings. We arranged it on the Physics  lab. The programme started at 1:30 p.m. Students occupied their seats at the right time and the school HM Rajendran sir came to inaugurate the function and the girls'representative Miss Divya T delivered the welcome speech and the awareness class begins with a general introduction on disaster followed by the different disaster and then the concept disaster management is clearly explained with its different phases. Then the precautions and preventive measures to be taken when a disaster hits were clearly dealt with. Students actively responded as it was more of an interactive session and the valuable contribution from their side were also invited. Finally a feedback session was conducted and the students gave positive feedback as they said that the video presentation was very effective and heart touching.

I conducted the diagnostic test on this  week and the students  performed well. The test was mainly based on the grammar portion as  most of them wrongly answered the grammar section for the achievement test.  In the diagnostic test majority of them answered wrongly for the preposition session. So on December 7 I conducted a remedial teaching based on the topic prepositions using a game named "Simon says" and by using  many real-life examples and finally gave them an activity to complete a worksheet on prepositions. They performed well and then I conducted a test again to test their comprehension. The test showed that the class was effective.

Apart from the busy and tight schedule it was a nice week.

FOURTH WEEK EXPERIENCE
26/11/2018-30/11/2018

This week also Anna ma'am came for observation on 27 November Tuesday. I took the poem Another Chance by Helen Steiner Rice . I showed the video of a frog in the well as entry activity. It was an interesting animated video.  My students enjoyed the video a lot. after my observation they asked me to show them the video once more. After the facilitation I explained the meaning of difficult words using pictures, flash cards and real life situations. They comprehended the meaning very well. I asked them to find out the rhyming words from the poem as group activity. My students responded well. I was completely satisfied with my class and my teacher gave positive comments to me.

Entry activity of the poem Another Chance
I was happy that my three  observations went smoothly. This week there was the programme of JRC in the school.
JRC members of Jawahar H.S Ayur
It was nice to see them in their white uniform with cap. The assembly conducted by 9 B girls was very good. The teachers appreciated them for the assembly. The host who presented the assembly performed well. They also awarded the prize for those who answered in the quiz competition on the spot itself. It was a nice idea. This week I completed 20 lesson plans and teach my children some basics of grammar.  I taught them phrasal verbs and its uses. I was confused that whether my children could grab the topic as the grammar session were usually dry and boring.  But my children cooperated with me a lot and I could handle the topic nicely. We were all in hurry as we have only few left as the exams were fast approaching and we have to complete a lot of works before 21 December. So we constructed the questions for the achievement test and asked my students to choose a topic which they liked more for the conscientisation programme.

THIRD WEEK EXPERIENCE
19/11/2018- 24/11/2018

During this week our optional teacher Anna ma'am and general teacher Susan
ma'am came for observation. Anna ma'am came on 19 Monday. This week I started a new chapter The Last Leaf  by the famous  author O. Henry. Like his other stories this story is also known for the O Henrian twist or surprise endings. It is a heart touching story. It is all about the power of friendship,  hope, love, sacrifice, optimism, and care. This is one of my favourite stories . The message that the story conveys is that even the smallest sacrifice can not only have a great price but can accomplish great good. On Monday morning I have completed the chapter
The Jungle Air Crash and decided to take The Last Leaf for my observation. Anna ma'am came on 1:30 and she observed my class. After creating the initial  rapport with my students through informal talk and a warm up session as it was afternoon I showed them a video of the song from the movie Three Idiots starred by Amir Khan which shows how care and motivation could help one to recover from any serious illness. As it was a song my students were interested and listened to the video carefully. They cooperated with me very well and i was satisfied with my class. I got positive comments from my teacher and I was very happy. On 21 Wednesday Susan ma'am came to observe our class. I took the remaining portion of the chapter The Last Leaf . She also gave me positive comments . The only thing she pointed out to me to was to improve my blackboard writing though it is good. the problem is that the blackboard of my class was not good. This week a new programme was introduced in our school namely the Malayalathilakkam. As the name indicates it was for improving the students skills in Malayalam. Students who are backward in class of 8th and 9th are included in the programme. They were given pencil, book, paper, pen and crayons. Games were  also included.  They were asked to read, write, draw and sing. Most the students were happy to sit in the class. They were shown videos of stories also. We luckily get the opportunity to be a part of the programme.

This week Saturday was a working day as Tuesday was  a holiday. As the  teacher in charge of the Malayalathilakkam was on leave we were asked to look after the class. There were many students who drew very well.

18 SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 2018

SECOND WEEK EXPERIENCE
12/11/2018- 16/11/2018

Week one was a whirlwind for me as there was a little gap between me and my students. During this week I decided to be little bit strict because sometimes they were out of control. During this week I completed the remaining portions of the chapter The Jungle Air Crash. I showed them the videos related to the chapter through the projector. They were interested to see the video of the air crash. most of the naughty ones in my class sit quitely and watched the video. This week I make them to do many activities related to the chapter like diary entry, creative writing , vocabulary games etc. The incident which shocked me a lot was that majority of the students find it difficult to read the textbook and they don't know the meaning of simple words. so i asked them to keep a vocabulary notebook and to find atleast five new words everyday and write its meaning and pronunciation. I was not sure whether my students take it in the right sense. but many of the promised me that they will start writing from that day itself. In the second week we find it difficult to sit in the room alloted for us  because there was a lack of benches, chairs and desks. I went to take Navaprabha classes for 9th students. I was happy that they were my students. Firstly I make them  write the alphabets and then asked them to write  their personal details . I was quite surprised to see that some of them don't know the spelling of their parent's name. I taught them how to write each of the their personal details.

This week  three of our teachers came for observing our classes. Susan ma'am, Sindhu ma'am and Lathamini ma'am observe the classes. But four of our classes are not observed by Susan ma'am as she didn't get the time to observe the classes. In this week falls the Children's day. But our school didn't celebrate the day.
I felt that it is really true that
" Children are like wet cement.
Whatever falls on them makes an impression."
On 14th November I went to observe Anju's class on 9 A. She took the chapter The Jungle Air Crash . She was pleasant throughout the class and initiate the class with a video  showing the beauty and the dangers hidden in the forest. As it was shown through the projector it was nice and interesting to see it. Students listened to the video carefully and answered her questions. She took the class as professional teacher taking the class. The only negative to point out was her use of Malayalam. But her class as a whole was good. This week Prasad sir showed my students a film related to the chapter I was  taking. So the chapter became more clear to them.
Apart from the little misbehaviours from children the week goes smoothly and I was happy that I was able to teach my students who are backward in learning.

FIRST WEEK EXPERIENCE

7/11/2018-9/11/2018
"A TEACHER PLANTS THE SEEDS OF KNOWLEDGE
SPRINKLES THEM WITH LOVE

AND PATIENTLY NURTURES THEIR GROWTH TO PRODUCE TOMORROW'S DREAMS"
Teachers brings in the best experience where both the students and teachers put their efforts to improve the classes. Teachers into brings into practice novel ideas into classroom so as to make the classes attractive and interesting. As a part of B Ed curriculum the second phase of our teaching practice for thirty days started from 7/11/2018. A group consisting of ten teacher trainees from English, Malayalam, Physical Science and Natural Science optional joined at Govt. Jawahar H. S Ayur as teacher trainees. starting back to school after a break was a mixture of emotions. I was excited and glad to be back to my students. We reached the school on time on the correct time and  handed over the register to H.M .We received the necessary instructions from the respective teachers and  they assigned duties to us. We were also assigned duties to conduct Sraddah and Navaprabha classes  to 8th and 9th standards. I feel lucky and happy that I could take classes to students who are little backward in learning. In the first day there was a quiz competition as a part of  Aksharathilakkam programme . Lincy of 8 A got the first prize and Veni of 9 A secured the second prize. On the third day our Principal , Nisha ma'am visited our school and she signed our reflection diary and asked us about our works. In the same day for the mid-day meal fried rice and chicken curry were given to the students. We helped the aunty to cut vegetables . It was totally a new experience for us.

On the third day I started my first chapter The Jungle Air Crash by Juliane Koepcke of the unit The Dawn of Hope . It is an inspiring story in which the author explains her own story which is a fearful and heart touching incident in her life. I began by asking them about aeroplane and showed them a video of aeroplane , its interior parts and the take off of aeroplane. I also showed them the profile of the author and her different photos through the laptop. As it was a real story my students  were interested in it. I make them do an activity to  write a newspaper report on the aircrash. They wrote well. The week went smoothly. I was able to handle the classes in a nice manner. Students were very cooperative. With great hope and expectations, I am waiting for the upcoming days.
