MY INNOVATIVE WORK

    An innovative work can be defined as a new idea, device or method. It is something original and  more effective and as a consequence it breaks into the pupil. It is necessary to create and nurture an environment of innovation. As a part of teaching practice session I opted an innovative work based on the chapter The Last Leaf by O. Henry. I converted the story into a dramatic version. The drama was enacted by the students. The presentation by the students are attached via CD.

    I had the following objectives in my mind while doing this work. They are as follows;

  •   to develop the imagination and creativity in students
  •   to foster critical thinking and problem- solving skills
  •  to explore and evaluate ideas
  •  to express feelings and interpreting the feelings of others
  •  to enhance communication skills
  •  to improve the literary skills
                I opted the dramatic version as my innovative work because it is an outlet for self-expression and a way of learning. It is an effective learning tool because it involves the student intellectually, physically, socially, and emotionally. As the students themselves enacted the drama it helped their active participation in learning and made the class more lively. It provided more of a direct experience to students. At the same time drama helped students to get in touch with their creativity and spotaneity as well as to develop confidence in the expression of their ideas.

MY INNOVATIVE LESSON PLAN

I opted an innovative lesson plan based on the same chapter The Last Leaf. I initially showed them a profile of the author through the chart and gave an introduction about the story and the main characters. After the introduction a video presentation of the drama  enacted by the students are shown to them. As it was enacted by their friends it captured the attention of the students and sustained the interest till the very end of the lesson.
      After the presentation teacher make them silently read the lesson and clarified their doubts regarding meanings and asked some questions to check their comprehension. finally gave them an assignment.

 EIGHTH WEEK REFLECTION
(31/12/2018- 4/1/2019)

Though there were only a few working days during this week, I totally engaged with my students whenever I got free hours. It's the time to say goodbye to all my dear and near ones who stood with me right from the time I joined there. It was the last session of our teaching phase.I think I was able to accomplish my mission successfully. Though there were some obstacles in my way, I learned to overcome it with great confidence and my will power. This teaching sessions gave me new experiences and I learned to develop positive attitudes towards my life. When I visited the school for the first time I was too nervous and I didn't have any idea regarding class management and how to make students attentive in the class . But as days passed on I made up to change my teaching styles. Tried to interact with the students and created a sense of feeling in themselves  to consider me as one among them. Thereafter they tried to share their difficulties and problems with me. As a teacher I tried to console them with good remarks and boosted them up to face the challenges before them. The thing that I understood from my students was that they were very studious and hard working ones but they need a back support to be in the track. I got only three working days during this week because of hartal and a public holiday . I gave their answer sheets and taught them the sections most of them answered wrong and their teacher asked me to gave marks liberally.  I completed the entire portions assigned to me and even the portions apart from my lesson plan were also taught to them.
                 On Friday I reached the school with a broken heart as it was my last day in the school. Students came to me and I was able to see  gloomy faces with tear filled eyes in front of me. That incident made me gloomy too. The love and care they had given  me was the only treasure that i kept in my mind and will be there till my last breath. They are my backbones. My students of 9.B will be always in my mind .The 22 gems who transformed me to some other level. The ones who taught me the lessons of love, care and the values of good teacher- student relationships. I learned new lessons from them. As a teacher I gave them some tips to lead a successful life and wished them all the very best from the bottom of my heart. On the same day 10.B students requested me to attend their class during the 4th period. I taught them some portions in English text book and the students maintained pin drop silence. I bid farewell to them and left the class. The respect and love from my students was the only output I expected from them and I am damn sure that they had given me the output more than my expectation. After the lunch break session I certified my records from the HM and my concerned teacher. I along with my colleagues went to say goodbye for all the cooperation and help given to us by the school management. By 4 I left the school campus with a heart filled with sweet memories of my students. On my way I heard the sounds of some of my students calling out my name from far off distances and some waving hands at me. I left the school campus with a reformation and I too felt the changes I had undergone within myself. Missing my school days and my students I made up my mind to be a good teacher and now  I am back to my college.
